Police tape at a suburban rental home after a shooting

Three Midwestern Tourists Shot Dead in Florida

What happened

Three men in their late 60s were found dead Saturday outside a rental home in a Kissimmee subdivision after suffering gunshot wounds. Deputies say the men had delayed their trip because of vehicle trouble and were waiting for help when they were attacked. Authorities describe the shooting as random. The men were discovered by deputies who responded to a midday call about a shooting.

Who the victims were

The victims have been identified as Robert Luis Kraft, 69, his brother Douglas Joseph Kraft, 68, and their friend James Puchan, 68. The three men were on a short trip to Florida to attend a car show. Family members called the killings senseless and asked for privacy as they grieve. They described the men as loving family and longtime friends.

About the suspect

Osceola County police arrested 29 year old Ahmad Jihad Bojeh in connection with the killings. He lived next door to the rental property where the men were staying. Media reports say Bojeh had previously faced an attempted first degree murder charge but was acquitted after an insanity plea. Authorities say the new arrests followed a search of the scene and investigative work tying him to the crime.

What law enforcement says

Sheriff Christopher Blackmon called the shootings cold blooded and premeditated and said there was no known conflict between the victims and the suspect. Deputies reported they responded around 12:13 p.m. to the subdivision near Kissimmee and found three bodies in front of the home. Officials say the investigation is ongoing and more details will be released when available.

Questions for the system

This case raises urgent public questions about how prior violent cases and mental health findings are handled. Families and neighbors will want clarity about any supervision or treatment that followed earlier charges. Investigators and local officials will need to explain what happened, why, and whether changes are needed to prevent similar tragedies.
