Despite his recent conviction, Ivanka Trump continues to show strong support for her father, former President Donald Trump.
Ivanka’s Public Display of Support
After a Manhattan jury found Donald Trump guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, Ivanka Trump expressed her unwavering support by posting a childhood photo with her father on Instagram. The caption read, “I love you dad” followed by a heart emoji. This image, although taken around 40 years ago, conveyed a timeless message of love and support.
First Public Statement Since Conviction
The New York Post reported that this was Ivanka’s first public statement since her father’s conviction. Unnamed sources informed the paper that “Ivanka is fully supportive of her dad and loves him very much despite his conviction.”
The Jury’s Decision and Legal Proceedings
The New York City jury reached its verdict on the second day of deliberations. The charges were brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and related to a payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels through Trump’s then-personal attorney Michael Cohen before the 2016 presidential election. The jury requested testimony from publishing executive David Pecker and Cohen to be read back to them and also asked for portions of its instructions to be reread by the judge.
Trump’s Response and Legal Strategy
Trump’s attorneys are expected to appeal the verdict, arguing that multiple rulings made by Judge Juan Merchan unfairly prejudiced the trial. One such ruling involved denying testimony from former Federal Election Commission Chairman Bradley Smith, who stated that the payments to Daniels did not qualify as campaign expenses or donations. This decision instructed the jury that they did not have to agree on what crime Trump committed in relation to allegedly falsifying business records.
Trump’s Stance and Future Plans
Throughout the proceedings, Trump has maintained his innocence. In response to the verdict, he told reporters, “This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt.” He added, “The real verdict is going to be November 5th by the people.” Trump remains determined, stating, “I’m fighting for our country. I’m fighting for our Constitution,” and assuring his supporters that “This is long from over.”
