The recent legal actions against John Eastman and other Trump affiliates raise significant questions about the motivations behind these indictments.
Indictment of John Eastman
John Eastman, President Trump’s election lawyer, was arrested in Phoenix on charges of conspiracy, fraud, forgery, and other felonies related to the 2020 Trump alternate electors plan. These charges were brought despite Eastman’s lack of communication with the Arizona electors.
Broader Legal Actions
Last month, a state grand jury in Arizona indicted Trump 2020 alternate electors, GOP state legislators, former Arizona GOP chairwoman Kelli Ward, and others. A total of 18 individuals involved in the Arizona alternate electors plan were indicted. Additionally, Trump lawyers Christina Bobb, Jenna Ellis, Rudy Giuliani, and John Eastman faced indictments. President Trump himself was named ‘Unindicted Coconspirator-1’ in the indictment due to a phone call about ballot counting to former governor Doug Ducey.
Timing and Political Implications
The timing of these indictments is notably close to the 2024 general election. This has led to speculation that these actions serve as a warning to those who might challenge the upcoming election.
Statements from Legal Authorities
Arizona’s Democrat Attorney General Kris Mayes announced these charges last month. She stated: “We conducted a thorough and professional investigation over the past 13 months into the fake electors scheme in our state.”
John Eastman’s Response
Despite being accused, Eastman voluntarily surrendered for arrest and was booked and arraigned in Phoenix. He pleaded not guilty to the charges. As reported by the Arizona Sun Times here, Eastman stated: “These charges should’ve never been brought. I pled not guilty. I had zero communications with the electors in Arizona. Zero involvement in any of the election litigation in Arizona or legislative hearings. I’m confident that if the law is faithfully applied I will be fully exonerated at the end of this process.”

Additional Legal Challenges
Eastman also faced indictment in Fulton County, Georgia, in Fani Willis’ RICO case against Trump. Furthermore, he was officially disbarred last month after a California judge ruled that his law license should be revoked for challenging the 2020 election.
